GIBRALTAR ROCK TOURS Main Street Walking Tour - 2 hrs approx. Enjoy another way to visit Gibraltar and immerse yourself with the locals and our culture down Main Street! Our tour starts at the entrance to Main Street, Casemates. Formerly known as Picket Square through the siege years. This area was used by the forces for everything from military parades to public executions. The Grand Casemate itself was later used as accommodation for Moroccan migrants workers right up untill the 1990's. Today it is Gibraltar's social hub and boasts many pubs and restaurants. There are frequent live events held here. Our walk takes us to Landport Gate, built in the sixteenth century by the Spanish and was originally the only entrance to Gibraltar. This was destroyed and rebuilt in 1729. Along Main Street and Irish Town, we can see the different buildings and facades. A mixture of architectural design. Testament to the diverse historical influences on the Rock. The Cathedral, The Convent, John Mackintosh Square and the Courts of Justice are all on our tour route.
